Workshop

Eco-temporalities and Geo-politics

(in cooperation with MESH and co-funded by the AG Eco Media)

October 13 and 14, 2022

The multidisciplinary workshop “Eco-temporalities and Geo-politics” addresses different modes of thinking about and engaging with our current eco-social crises which are rooted in a progressivist and productionist temporality. This temporal narrative often entails restless techno-capitalist advancements and a blinkered focus on future profits on a global scale. The workshop is conceptionalized as a preliminary event to the kick-off symposium of MESH (Multidisciplinary Environmental Studies in the Humanities) at the University of Cologne. It is composed of a virtual keynote lecture by Michelle Bastian (University of Edinburgh) and four thematic panels on Eco-aesthetics, Eco-conflicts, and Eco-crime. We have invited international scholars of all levels and diverse subject areas in the field Environmental Humanities. The workshop is funded by the Competence Area IV, University of Cologne and the AG “Eco Media”. The venue will be the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne.
